Elene / Local Guide
About
Born and raised in Chania, on the ever-enchanting island of Crete, I grew up surrounded by beauty without truly seeing it. Like many locals, I took everything for granted—the landscape, the food, the traditions, even the weight of history beneath my feet. Fresh milk, cheese, and eggs arriving almost weekly from my grandmother. Olive oil, vegetables, and meat coming straight from my grandfather’s village in the mountains. A family table filled every day with honest, soulful food cooked by my mother. For years, this was simply life.
Living, studying, working, and travelling abroad changed many things—but the greatest gift it gave me was perspective. It taught me to truly appreciate where I come from. My roots. My traditions. My home. And above all, my family.
I am not a tourism professional, and I never aspired to be one. I am not a licensed tour guide either. What I am, however, is deeply connected to local food, culture, and tradition—because they are woven into who I am. They were not learned from books; they were lived, absorbed, and passed down through generations.
Sharing my favourite places to eat, walk, hike, and explore is not a job to me—it is a privilege. Just like welcoming a friend into my hometown and showing them Crete as it truly is: slow, generous, deeply delicious—and unmistakably human.
